More than 2,500 people packed a picnic and found a spot on the Eastern Foreshore to witness ‘Mandjar Dreaming’, the spectacular Stretch Arts Festival 2015 opening event. Performed in the water, the event featured giant puppets, sound, music, projection and community performers, and celebrated traditional and contemporary indigenous stories and dreaming.
The project welcomed Creative Director, Karen Hethey a Perth based professional Animateur/Director, Puppetry Artist, large scale Spectacle Theatre Maker and performer. Karen ran some very special hands on workshops in storytelling, puppetry and puppet building workshops in the lead up to the festival. These workshops were supported by community members, local schools and art groups, many of whom participated in the opening performance.
